Just saw on Mount Snow's Facebook page that they were approved by the US Forest Service to replace two of their aging lifts. the Summit Local Triple will get a new high speed six pack, and the sloooow sunbrook quad is being replaced with a high speed quad.

I will miss the old summit local. Nice long ride on a spring day. The quad is sure showing its age though, I wonder how long it will be around.

I actually think this will be a big improvement. The mountain (trail-wise) can pretty much handle all the people who go there, and as long as you stick to the less-skied trails you can avoid the crowds even on a weekend. But the biggest problem Mount Snow has always had is the lift lines.

The high speed quad they installed to replace the old bubble gondolas is quick, but the lines after lunch on a Saturday can be 20+ minutes long. If it's cold out, the Summit Local is just a brutally frigid ride as you get the winds coming in from the north side of the mountain.

So yeah, it's going to dump a lot more people on the trails now, but it's also going to mean you get more skiing in and less standing in line...

It also will mean you get to ski with thousands of your buddies @ once. I'd rather stand in line.

well, yes and no. weekends and holidays there are, predictably, kind of insane. I don't usually go there then because it's just too much of a mad house. but it's not always mobbed, especially on weekdays and Sundays.

I'm not trying to knock it & I skied there during the Magic closed years in the early 90's.

I mostly ski weekends & cannot imagine more uphill capacity there. Please let me know if you guys head to Magic this year. Or rather please head to Magic this year & let me know when you're coming. It's needs the support & i'll buy you a Beer
