I met a few dedicated supporters of the Magic Mountain variety (a la Save Magic). When they're not trying to drum up support for the mountain, they're out trying to make the mountain more fun.

Lizzy and I drove the 2.5 hours (don't believe Google Maps) to Londonderry VT and the home of Magic for a night of camping (read: Beer ) and two days of cutting. The supporters are authorized to cut and sculpt the glades at Magic in search of some big cliffs and steep lines. We carved out a line called "The Rabbit Hole;" a trail not for the feint of heart. It's so steep and narrow in places, I think ice axe and crampons are a better option. We also carved out a few 10-20 ft. cliffs, ones I can't wait to see someone hit. I named one of them "Dean's Last Harrah" in honor of the last mistake I'll ever make... ha!

We hiked up to the summit to set camp, and worked our way down the mountain through the trees. We had dogs aplenty running up and down the trail, playing and generally loving every minute of the outdoors. There are many other potential glades that have yet to be carved out and fully expressed. I can't wait to see what they all look like with 2ft of fresh Snow!!

I think folks are heading back up there in October for another group effort. Liz and I will be there.
