Day 1 - 2010/2011 :: We're Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

208 days. That's how long its been since May 1, 2010, the last day I buckled in before dropping into Hillman's Highway at Tucks. Boy did it feel good to be back.

Our journey started Friday after a Thanksgiving visit with the family in PA. We made it back to Somerville, MA in just around 6 hours and began to pack up for another trip further north, with some luggage that hasn't seen the road in quite some time.

4:30am came quickly and before we knew it, we were on our way. First destination, Bartlett, NH to pick up big mountain charger, Johnny Directions. 3 hours later and our crew for the day was complete. Next stop, Sunday River.

A little over an hour later and we were being directed to our parking spot by Dalton, in lot number 5. Yup, a lot of people had the same idea we did.

After an extremely disappointing November trip in 2009, we were skeptical of what we were going to be riding. We were pleasantly surprised by what we found. The crew had 21 trails online and the conditions were awesome. We took our first few runs to get our legs under us and then it was like last season never ended.

Content with our start to the season, we headed into the Foggy Goggle for lunch and some drinks. We reminisced about the previous season and planned for the new one. Fed and refreshed, Sean and I headed back out for some more while John selflessly stayed and manned our table. We decided to stick by South Ridge and take some laps on the cruisers. Simply a beautiful, relaxing first day. On one of our last runs, some natural stuff finally started to fall and all seemed right in the world. Of course I forgot my camera to document things, so yeah, I borrowed that photo from the Sunday River site.

Once we'd had our fill, we headed back in to find that John had ordered celebratory jagerbombs and an awesome cover band named Monstah. (although, I think the Foggy Goggle, may have had something to do with it) Their set was interrupted by an absolute whiteout! Hopefully its a sign of things to come this season. A few more drinks and it was time to either find a place to crash for the night or head back to Bartlett. So we went with the latter.

Safely back in Bartlett, we basked in the glory of the day and toasted the coming season. Its so good to be back where we belong.

See you out there!
